John Smith began riding horses at the young age of 8. Three years later she started showing Quarter Horses in AQHA breed shows.

At the end of her first year of competing at AQHA shows, she became the inaugural recipient of the prestigious Martin q. Mitchell award as the highest-scoring youth out of all age brackets.

That year she was also ranked 13th in the nation for Rookie Of The Year. That was a tremendous accomplishment, since she competed in only three circuits.

After another year of earning the Youth All-Around Championship in her state, John decided to focus her efforts on Showmanship and Hunter Under Saddle.

He bought a 2-year-old gelding Brother and worked with him over the winter. The Team of John and "Bro" became a formidable match, as they were undefeated in HUS the first 19 times out.

In 1998, John and "Bro"  finished 10th in Youth Showmanship and 11th in NYATT HUS at the All-American Quarter Horse Congress, the world’s largest single-breed horse show.

John and "Bro"  continued to win State and Circuit Championships as well as AQHA’s Superior Youth and Open Hunter Under Saddle awards.

Due to medical problems, John no longer shows. He is now dedicated to helping other equestrian competitors achieve their dreams and goals in the show ring. John hold judging cards in NHRA, AQHA, ApHC and APHA
